Um, there is no clot. It was an artifact.
The gynaecologist did say he was sorry I'd had to go through all that, 'all that' being 20 hours of being on tenterhooks. (What is a tenterhook? Must Google that, one of these days.)
It's incredible how many arrangements for just the next few days (not to mention the next few weeks and months and then the next two years) were affected by the possibility that I'd be in hospital any minute now.
At 2.30 we went to the hospital for a Doppler ultrasound of the veins in my leg. Within a nanosecond of putting the instrument (what's that thing called? Must Google that, one of these days)(unless it's called a Doppler - though that can't be the general name for an ultrasound wand) on my groin, the incredibly nice technician said "there's nothing there". I'd prepared myself for every eventuality but that one.
Upstairs we went with the ultrasound films and report to see the gynaecologist. He was surprised. But it's just as well he checked it out - good medical practice - and I'm incredibly fortunate to live at the epicentre of medical expertise and facilities in Australia (which means in the world, too.)
So it's back to Plan A - draining and removal of as much of the cyst as possible, tomorrow.
As I don't have private health insurance, I'll be paying the day surgery cost, otherwise I would have had to wait six weeks to get onto my doc's public list - which I would have done if we weren't planning to go to England in two weeks time. I figure I would have paid much more than that in private health fees by this stage of my life if I belonged to a heath fund, so I don't mind. I've been able to have nearly all these tests and doctor visits bulk-billed - again, I'm fortunate to live where that's possible and to be tapped into the lefty end of medical practitioners.
I'm back to feeling energetic and well, but have to remind myself that I still face a general anaesthetic and surgery tomorrow. I hope there are no more surprises in store.
[Thanks for all your well-wishes - they're very valuable.]
Best wishes for the surgery Suz.

Well, that's great news. Good luck with the surgery. I hope it's as painless as possible, and your recovery goes quickly.

I hope things went well for you today. General anaesthetic makes you feel awful - I hope you have a restful weekend. But what a relief about the clot! Wow. Is it better to have been v. worried and then relieved (It's nothing!) or better not to have worried at all? When you are well enough to type I want to read more about illness, health and the change of outlook (if any).
