In the month leading up to the start of daylight saving, Olle and I got into a nice habit of waking up very early (6am-ish) and reading our book together, ie. me reading to him.
I've decided to try and read books to him that I didn't read as a child - I figure I've probably only got another year or so of this and I'm unlikely to read children's novels by myself. Recently I read The Borrowers and then he got the movie out - which was quite unlike the book, though using the same character names and basic concept.
At the moment we're reading Moominvalley in November, which I love (and he loves too). I love the way each character is so ineffably her or himself.
Another Moomin fan! We love the Moomins. Currently reading Moominpappa's Memoirs. Do you have the picture books? (The book of Moomin, Mymble and Little My; and Who Will Comfort Toffle.)
I'd love a look at your reading list, if you wish to. Next up for us is James and the Giant Peach.

Ahhhhhhh..... :-)
I realize now that I read very very little of the classic children's canon (meaning, not the fusty stuff but even just those great popular books that "everyone" read). I was left to my own devices by the teachers and librarians, who had their hands full with the squeaky wheels, and my parents figured if I was quiet, it was good. So I'm delighted to be reading so many good books now.

Yes we have most of the Moomins books. I never heard of the Moomins when I was a child. I found out about them when I bought an audio-tape for Olle of Hugh Laurie (now Dr House) reading the first book, about five years ago. Then we were hooked. In fact I've just ordered the latest comic book from Amazon.
I'm very fortunate to still have my own books from childhood. So recently we read 'They Found a Cave' by Nan Chauncy, a Tasmanian author from the 50s, and a Puffin book about an Icelandic boy who becomes a Viking (I can't find it, so can't remember the exact title); we also read 'Chunky' by Leila Berg (I think she's wonderful) and a contemporary Australian soccer novel, 'Jasper Zammit: the Striker' by Debora Abela and Johnny Warren, which I would recommend.
I read a huge amount as a child but can hardly remember what I read - I know I loved the 'Swallows and Amazons' series (which I'd like to re-read with O) and I read a number of novels set in Roman Britain by Rosemary Sutcliffe. I read a lot of historical novels when I was 10 or so.
Olle often re-reads books after I've read them to him.
