I read an extract in the New Yorker earlier in the year and my appetite was sufficiently whetted to read it...you've peaked my curiosity with what you've said, so I might go ahead now and buy a copy.

I just finished Lionel Shriver's The Post Birthday World, which is very much about the road not taken in the context of coupledom. I put it down thinking that really, in terms of dramatic events, nothing at all happens in the book (except for 9-11 in the background), yet it's completely fascinating and enthralling in the minutiae of motivation and human interaction.
