I used to know what they're called (the red and white spotted mushrooms) but have forgotten. They grow in the Blue Mountains in abundance, usually under the radiata pines, interesting that they also grow under casurinas, must be something about the needles. They are quite a sight aren't they? Apparently they're not poisonous--yeah right! Anything that alarming in colour is definitely trying to communicate something.

Fairies and sprites seem to be rejoicing in the rain and popping up mushrooms circles all over the place.

There were some like your first photo growing under a tree outside our school this week. I'd never seen them before either. I kept looking for a fairy or a toad on top but I didn't see any! :)
