On Saturday morning I had an appointment at the osteopath's - in the waiting room was a copy of the Sydney Morning Herald and on the top banner was a photo of a face with the subhead I'm not gay but my four mums are. It said this was in the Insight section but there was no page number. I turned to the index on page 2 - no Insight section listed. I looked through all the vast bulk of the weekend paper and couldn't find Insight. Then I had to go in to my appointment.
Later I bought a copy of the paper, took it home and looked through it again - couldn't find Insight. I complained to co-parent about how sub-editorial standards at the Herald are so low these days and asked her to look. Finally she found it. We both laughed. It was an article about someone we know. Co-parent went to university in England with one of Eamon's mums.
In other Australian gay parenting news, the first official domestic gay adoption has taken place in WA. There is some prospect that the law in NSW (and Victoria) might be changed within the next couple of months. You can send a postcard to support this and other measures to give us equal status as parents via the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby website.
I really enjoyed that article - but I found it serendipitously - so didn't have a chance to complain about standards these days.

There's an upcoming article also in the Law Society Journal by Julie Lewis - not quite as feel good as Horin's piece, as it chronicles the ongoing bias in law, the impact this has in contested access cases, & the failure of many lawyers to adequately represent gays & lesbians.

Of course you knew one of them! And so did I. A bunch of us tried to play a 1esbian version of 'six degrees of separation' on (what else?)a bushwalk once, but had to give up when we couldn't get past four steps between any two people we could think of.
But I also had GREAT trouble finding the Insight section.
