I recall The Red Balloon from my childhood. I loved both the book and the film. I don't suppose my boys would get too excited about it...not enough action or too boring, depending on which child. I'll have to see if I can find a copy of the book and read it again.

We haven't seen any films at the cinema this summer. N won't go and it's a bit tricky arranging who will look after him while the rest of the family goes. My MIL is about the only person he will stay with at the moment.

While I haven't seen that film, there is a lot to be said for slower movies, especially for younger children. There have been some Swedish cartoon movies shown here called Petterson & Findus (about an old man, his cat and their garden) which are just like a lazy summer afternoon.
