I sent away for the booklet yesterday with a note attached:

"Growing up gay in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney in the 60s and 70s, this booklet is sure to evoke some memories. I much preferred life when it was ‘camp’ rather than today’s ‘gay’ when it seems to be anything but, especially if you’re over 50 (of course, I like today’s legal situation much better!)."

The first gay venue I ever went into was The Purple Onion and I can still remember the night. It's kinda cliched but it was the first time I truly realised that there were more poofs in the world than just myself and the one or two others at school. A new world opened and I never looked back.
