There's just been a huge HIV/AIDS conference in Mexico, which I didn't see any mention of in the media here (though that might indicate more about my non-reading of the Australian media than about what they publish.) A friend of mine attended from England, though as she's not back home yet I haven't heard her account. But I came across this discussion of the anti-circumcision booth at the conference - there's been a move (largely from the US) in recent years for male circumcision as a counter to HIV transmission in Africa. This discussion neatly summarises the phallacies in that position and there's a link to a webcast of the anti-circumcision session at the conference.
"phallacies"
I see what you did there.

I've been waiting and waiting for the American Academy of Pediatrics to revise its circ position in light of the Africa study findings, and they've posted a sort of stop-gap "we're studying our prior neutral stance" statement someplace on their site, but it's been more than a year now since the reports out of Africa, and still no word.
I told Calder I was worried we might have made the wrong decision (No circ) and he rolled his eyes and said, safe sex is the most important thing (or words to that effect). But I do admit, I second-guessed myself a lot when the studies were reported.
