sprout convert

All my life I have considered sprouts boring. I never bought them, I never sprouted them and I never asked for them in food (eg sandwiches).

Then last year, our weekly organic box began to occasionally include sunflower sprouts and, dutifully trying to eat everything from the box so that we didn't waste food, I discovered that sunflower sprouts are delicious. Crunchy, firm and greenily fresh.

Then I read the menopause book which put sprouts up there with soy as good phytoestrogens.

So I began to buy them (not alfalfa sprouts, which I still consider boring, but sunflower and adzuki and mung sprouts) and order them in lunch food. Yesterday for lunch I made a salad that was half sprouts, with avocado, tomato and grated carrot, and a tahini-mustard-olive oil dressing.

I have to go and eat the leftovers now.
