I've been woken early both days this weekend by a gaggle of miner birds making an incredible racket just outside our front window. At least, that's what it sounded like. The first morning it was so early that I only half woke up, so I managed to get back to sleep again without looking out the window. Today, they woke us all at 7am and I sent Olle out to shoo them away - which worked. I asked him what they'd been doing and he said 'sitting on the wires'.
About an hour later they came back and I was able to see that what they were in fact doing was sitting on the electricity wires across the street (it's a narrow street, so they're only 5-6 metres away) and jumping in and out of a tall bush (small shrub? short tree? I'm not sure what it is). A few of them would hop around in the bush while others sat on the wires and between them all they made a huge noise. They were obviously talking about something, but I have no idea what it was or why this particular bush has aroused their attention. Maybe it has berries on it - I'll have to go and look closely.
The noise reminded me of the time years ago that we were camping out near Broken Hill - we'd be woken at sunrise every morning by the din from the cockatoos.
Although I'd rather not be woken up like that, I'm glad the birds are still making their presence felt.
