As I type this, helicopters swish past low over my house. They've been buzzing past for hours, on and off. It's hard not to flinch when they sound like they're going to land in the street outside - actually they're landing just up the street.
Local residents received a message telling us not to be alarmed - they're just practising some kind of unusual landing procedure. It's hard not to suspect this has something to do with Dick Cheney's visit to Sydney tomorrow.
As I was reading to Olle in bed with the loud engines making the room vibrate, I couldn't help thinking that the poor residents of Baghdad have this all the time now - and it's the least of their worries.
