I see from my visitor stats that I've been nominated for an Australian blogging award - for best political blog, which is somewhat (in fact very) surprising. I can't tell who's nominated me as the same gravatar seems to sit beside most entries on that page. Thanks, whoever you are.
One funny little irony is that I work with someone who won a best blog award just a few weeks ago. He doesn't know that I blog!
[Goes off shaking her head in surprise...]
Why on earth would you find that surprising?
Sorry to hear about dramas with Lot by the way - I've been out of touch for a while so missed the drama. She looks gorgeous. Our 14 year old Rottie died a year ago so I know what you mean about knowing as they approach death. We're only just now thinking about getting another dog.

Congratulations! I don't find your blog overly political (so I can maybe understand your surprise if you were surprised at being nominated for a purely political blog) - but I do like that you touch on political issues as they affect people (not just as political issues - if that makes sense). I think your writing is very refreshing and I'm always interested in reading what you have to say.
Congrats again!

Yes Linda, it was the 'political' tag that was most surprising (that, and that anyone's ever heard of my blog!) Of course, as the title implies, I do aim to write about politics but the balance changes from time to time and this week you could be forgiven for thinking it was a canine blog :-) I don't know what people who are checking out the nominations will think!
