homophobic bedfellows

There's a new-ish free gay broadsheet in Sydney called Pink Broad. It carries the story (that no other media sees fit to print) that the US has joined with several other reactionary countries in backing an Iranian initiative against giving consultative status to gay organisations at the UN, most noteably the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA)..

The US's behaviour is reprehensible. I mentioned it here a little while back, after catching a small item in the NYTimes. Unbelievable, isn't it?

Bloody disgraceful. Where's the rhetoric about Iran's backwardness and hard line conservatism? And how telling that no one wants to talk about it.
